Customer service has really gone out the door here. Iโ€™ve been a pretty loyal customer since moving to Denver, but after this morning I think Iโ€™m done. I stopped in to pick up some soil, and yes, my 5 year old daughter was being a bit of a pain. Kids have their moments. But one of the older men working there gave her the biggest, most prolonged death glare imaginable. It was noticeable enough that even my husband commented afterward that it made him uncomfortable watching a grown man stare at a 5 year old girl like that. This is also the same guy who previously told me they would โ€œnever getโ€ a particular pot back in stock that I had purchased from them before. His words. There were literally about five of them sitting out for sale today. So thereโ€™s that. I also asked about delivery and was told itโ€™s $50 within five miles, which seemed reasonable. Then another cashier jumped in to tell me that downtown deliveries cost extra on top of the $50. Between the attitude, the confidently incorrect information, and the nickel and dimming, Iโ€™m good. Iโ€™ll spend my money somewhere else.

The prices here are higher than other places but I defend that they do this to hire highly knowledgeable and experienced staff. They are specifically skilled at diagnosing plants and providing the solution to keep them growing and alive. Additionally, I'm a naturally curios person who loves to learn. When I start asking all my questions about how and why plants and trees do the things they do, the staff is always able to explain things. The honey suckle picture is one of literally a dozen plants I have bought from here that have flourished.

Once upon a time Denver was the world's Carnation Capital and City Floral a major producer of miniature carnations (and other cut flowers) for the wholesale market. An employee in the mid-1950s had the idea of selling the lower grade flowers to the public. Cheap carnations ($1 a dozen) soon led to lots of foot traffic to the greenhouses which motivated adding additional plants and other retail items. South American competition led to the decline of U.S. cut flower production and City Floral sold the last carnation in 1985, adapting to become a full retail garden center with a landscaping design/build operation. The greenhouses date back to the original cut flower facility built in 1911. This was expanded for retail sales in 1976. The office and warehouse facilities on the west side were added in 1990. This is the oldest remaining greenhouse in Denver. The current facility is packed with every possible goodie for the gardener/landscaper including flowers, fruits, vegetables, plants, trees, shrubs, a huge variety of containers, statuary, tools, and supplies. There's a large succulent section and a good collection of bonsai. Services include tips and education on plant care, pest

Great spot in the city for traditional annuals, perennials and veggies, including a selection of Plant Select plants which are better for conditions in Colorado. They also have a lots of bulbs in the fall and beautiful Christmas trees in the winter. On their Plant Select and native plants selection, I do wish they had more straight species and fewer cultivars, but that being said you can still find some good natives here and itโ€™s my go-to spot for veggies. Everything Iโ€™ve purchased here always seems to be good and healthy too. Canโ€™t complain!

I have been a customer for almost 20 years. We have landscaped two of our homes with trees, bushes, perennials and herbs. I can always count on the gift shop for so many unique gifts. Sales Associate Marina is always so sweet & helpful. I highly recommend City Floralโค๏ธ.
